Q: Where can you get sublingual vitamin B12 in London?

A: What possible reason would you want, or think you want B12 to fix, in the absence of pernicious anaemia, which requires it to be injected anyway?

Q: When taking a sublingual vitamin or drug, do any of the “other ingredients” get absorbed too?
besides any sugars or flavorings, what about the binders or preservatives? Are these “other ingredients” safe if they are absorbed, and how efficient is sublingual administration of vitamins anyway, especially of vitamin B12? Example B12 sublingual lozenges “other ingredients”: “Fructose, Mannitol, Cellulose, Stearic Acid, Magnesium Stearate, Silica, Natural Cherry Flavor, Raspberry Flavor”

A: It’s not necessary. Sublingual tablets need to 1) disintegrate under the tongue and 2) the active ingredient must be absorbed in that setting. Notice i didn’t say all the ingredients must be absorbed.

Q: If sublingual administration of vitamins is so efficient, how come most people take pills?
and then, many of the people who do take vitamin or mineral pills hate taking them, end up chewing them and swallowing them or just stop taking them altogether(especially the large ones). How come sublingual multi-vitamins aren’t more commonly used? They are out there, but they control only a small share of the supplement market, except for maybe sublingual vitamin B12 sprays and lozenges. Also, many vitamins, minerals and many herbs when taken orally have a limited bioavailability, like curcumin; so why not take these as sublingual instead? How come sublingual vitamins and herbs aren’t more commonly used? It seems sublingual administration is pretty efficient according to what I’ve read, but is the sublingual route good for everything?

A: It probably depends a lot on the nature of the vitamin. Compounds that ionize easily can be easily absorbed through the sublingual route, but those that require lower or higher pH may need to be processed in the stomach or intestines to be absorbed.

There’s also a lot to be said for sheer social inertia. People might be suspicious of a sublingual vitamins if they haven’t heard a lot about them or have always used oral vitamins.

Q: does taking fish oil omega 3 and b12 help with anxiety?
i have tried zoloft 3 times now and everytime the medication gives me hypotension or postural hypotension upon standing and sitting to fast and other sexual side effects so i started today treating my anxiety with 3 tabs of omega 3 fish oil and sublingual b12 vitamins is there any stories of how this has helped people with anxiety and any other herbs that help anxiety/depression?

A: its good for your health in general which will help, but lots of things will help symptoms, to cure is to delve deep ,figure out the root cause and deal with it

Q: How to take sublingual b12 lozenges most effectively?
I find it hard not to swallow the saliva that gathers in my mouth and it takes forever for the pill to disolve…
I think im doing something wrong cos i dont feel the energy effect and have been taking Jarrows 1000mcg B12 and the vitamin B-complex supplements for about a week now.

A: They are pretty useless. a waste of money.

Q: Have you taken Vitamin B12 sublingual pills? If so did it help? Did you ever take too many of them?
SUBLINGUAL = under the tongue

A: You cannot take too much Vita B-12 because it is water soluble. You will urinate out what you don’t need. My husband takes it and says it helps him with energy. i know it is also good for hair and skin.

Q: can u consume too much B12 vitamins.?
I bought some SUBLINGUAL VITAMIN B-12 but each tablet has 5000 MCG.

I think that’s too much because the daily value is only 2.6 mcg. That’s a huge difference. Just want to make sure I am not overdosing.

A: Well…I don’t know about OD-ing…but your pee must be so bright yellow they could use it in a neon sign.

Is the tablet ALL B-12? or the other B’s? like a Complex?

I know SUBLINGUAL as a person who cannot talk or grunts.

   5000 MCG?

Q: How often should vitamin B12 supplements be taken by a strict vegetarian?
I hear it takes a long time to run out of B12, so taking it every day(unless you’re borderline deficient or trying to build up a large reserve) isn’t necessary. So which is best for maintaining optimal levels of B12? Once a week? Once a month? Is sublingual B12 as effective as injections?

A: I have read and heard that 1ml Vitamin B12 injection once a month is a good dose. Vitamin B12 is a Water Soluble Vitamin. There is almost no risk of overdosing.

Q: Which one is more effective without secondary effects? injectable vitamin B12, or sublingual ones?

A: B-12 injections for sure.

Q: Does vitamin B12 really work for you?
I am speaking of the regular kind you swallow, not the sublingual B12 that you put under your tongue, however I will take opinions on both. Does this really perk you up? I am doing shift work and recently read about SWSD. I am really tired. Any opinions on B12?

A: No, it does not by itself. But read on, it’s not black and white for me:

In the beginning I tried sublingual methylcobalamin (bioavailable form of B12) and it worked great. then like everything I take for fatigue, it no longer helped much. It did help for my balance/coordination problem though.

But I have severe adrenal insufficiency/chornic adrenal failure with low cortisol low aldosterone. So it helped at first.

Now I am on coenzymated vitamin B’s which includes Methylcobalamin and it really helps me. (I was in and out of a coma state in Jan for 4 days). I no longer sink in a coma now.

The drs had given me B12 shots (injections) but those were cobalamin and they didn’t help for nothing!

I think methylcobalamin needs to be taken with the other B’s in coenzymated form. As for your tiredness, get your cortisol levels checked via saliva testing. Good luck.

Q: Does Vitamin B12 come in liquid sublingual form?

A: yes, you can get it at the health food stores, although that doesn’t mean it will work like it’s supposed to…

Q: what are possible side effects to the b12 vitamin?
i have recently started taking b12 vitamins i purchased at wal-mart for like 3 dollars because there supposed to increase you metabolism and give you energy. they are the sublingual dots.. and i think i may take way to many of them at a time at one point i was taking about ten a day just because i didn’t think it would hurt anything. i want to know if there are any side effects to taking too many?

A: your testicles will pop and your penis will fall off…

Q: How much is too much vitamin D, B12?
(I originally posted this in Health > Diet & Fitness, but only received relentless spam and answers without scientific evidence or medical basis. After deleting the post, I have decided to post in this category hoping for a more specific and reliable answer. I appologize for any inconvenience.)

Being anemic, I am currently taking three supplements recommended by my doctor, iron, vitamin D and B12. I recently purchased SlimQuick, a weight-loss supplement I have used before, which contains both vitamins, D and B12. I am unsure if the amount of these vitamins I am consuming is beyond a healthy dosage. According to my doctor, any excess of needed vitamins will be urinated out, yet my worries remain.

Floradix Floravital (ferrous gluconate):
Vitamin B12 – 7.5 mcg (125% DV)

Vitamin D3 Supplement:
Vitamin D3 – 1000 IU (250% DV)

B-Complex Sublingual Liquid:
Vitamin B12 – 1,200 mcg (20,000% DV)

SlimQuick*:
Vitamin D – 200 IU (50% DV)
Vitamin B12 – 12 mcg (200% DV)
(Also includes 200 mcg of Folic Acid)

Total:
Vitamin D – 1,200 IU (300% DV)
Vitamin B12 – 1,219.5 mcg (20,325% DV)

The percentages are what worry me.

Note: In a blood test, both my vitamin D and B12 levels were between 5 and 8 units below the standard levels.

*SlimQuick contains, from what I can gather, natural ingredients that do not strike me as harmful.

http://www.slimquickonline.com/slimquick-ingredients.html

A: Whether a vitamin can get to toxic levels in the body depends on whether they are lipid woluble or water soluble. Lipid soluble vitamins will accumulate in fat when taken in high doses and can then have toxic effectc. Water soluble vitamins will be excreted in the urine when taken in excess. Vitamins A,D, E and K are lipid soluble all the others are water soluble. I would therefore be wary of taken this supplement along with those recommended by your doctor. I would stick with what the doctor has given you and ask him/her for another blood test to check your levels after a few weeks.

Q: Do you think I should take 2000 mcg of vitamin B12 instead of just 1000 mcg since I eat so much…?
Spirulina and kelp which apparently inhibit absorption?

Also, how do you supplement B12 (oral, sublingual, injection etc)? Just curious thanks!
Jessica there is NO vitamin B12 in plants at all.
There are SOME coblamins in algae and seaweed but they’re not bio-available and inhibit true absorption.

A: I’d go talk to a naturopath at a health shop and ask their advice. What you decide to do, is up to you, but… maybe what you should do in the meantime…
is separate the time that you have the spirulina from when you have the B12 suppliment. That should allow the B12 to be absorbed by your body.

I dont believe you can OD on B12. What is needed is used, what is extra is stored for later use. The body has many uses for B12.

I have previously had the B12 injections. They are like hornet stings! I use the sublingual drops now.

It took 24 years to find the REASON why my B group vitamin levels would crash and why I was having difficulty coping with life and was becoming increasingly TIRED!… so tired. Everything would then be an effort and I’d get grumpy with everyone’s demands on me.
I’d see my GP only to be told I was depressed. I refused his offers of antidepressants as I felt there was something else that was wrong… my friends didnt take B vitamins like I had to; and they had so much energy…

The B12 injections were a real pick up boost and would last a few months before I started wilting again. I had to take daily, high doses of B group vitamin supliments to stay on top of things.
Managing two weeks on, one week off… then I’d miss a month or so and crash again! You’re depressed… No Im NOT!!

A fantastic Naturopath, found I was generally nutrient deficient, very low in B12, had undigested food and candida in the blood stream and… chronic fatigue.
He was amazed I was still working full time!
I was put onto a special anti-candida diet and a suppliment regime that included the sublingual drops of B12 and liquid B group. This raised my levels to a more acceptable height. I started feeling well again. I still use the B12 drops and liquid B.

An Intergrative Dr followed up on the Naturopath’s findings, confirmed what he’d found and diagnosed leaky gut and the GLUTEN and DAIRY (casein) INTOLERANCES!! Finally! Someone believed me! He guided me into gluten and dairy free way of living.

Since going dairy and gluten free, I dont have that crashing problem. My general health has improved and life is great!
I have completed a 20km, grade 4, hike with a loaded pack and climbed to the crater of Mt Egmont which is a 2,518m perfect volcanic cone… with energy to spare!

I still take my B vitamins though… as Im also vegetarian.

Q: Is this combo of vitamins OK? Please read!! ?
I am taking OneADay Women’s…. 2 Benefiber….. Calcium 600mg with Vitamin D and Sublingual B12 2500mg every day.Is this a good combination? A bad one? Should I be taking more ? I am a 20 year old female if that helps?

A: hey emily ….. if it were me i would ditch the benefibre and eat some brown rice or rolled oats both rich in fibre and b vitamins ….. and drink more water …. i would also ditch the calcium with vitamin D tabs as they use so many fillers and nasty chemicals like magnesium stearate in processed supplements …. eat more green salads so rich in calciumm and magnesium or get yourself an organic powdered chelated calcium supplement ….. lifestream do a good one ….. and as far as the B12 supp goes, it really isn’t a good idea to supplement with any one of the b complex individually as they all work best synergistically (as a group) ….. so you’ll end up with deficiencies in others in the group by taking them individually ….. powdered organic spirulina is a good option as it is naturally rich in B12 …. start in small doses like a half tspn in water and hold your nose and swallow if you’re going to go with that option ……. or get a b complex supplement that contains all the b vitamins ie ~ B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B12, folic acid inositol, choline, PABA etc.etc.

having said all that …… if you are eating enough wholegrains like brown rice and rolled oats, some fresh fish or lean meats, plenty of fresh green salad and green leafy vegies, some fresh low sugar fruits like watermelon, pears or strawberries ….. and supplementing with a calcium powder ….. you shouldn’t need to use a b complex or the benefibre. ….. just take a good quality multi (you get what you pay for), take a powdered organic calcium powder and use the spirulina powder if you like and eat fresh good food….. it’s just not worth risking your precious vitality to trust manufacturers scruples on what they really do put in tablets vitamins et al.

drink more water too.

peace baby
♥

Q: Any good supplements for heavy brain fog and mental fatigue?
I have unexplained health problems, brain fog, as well as low energy. If nothing else I want something to help alleviate brain fog and improve mental processes, as I find this is even worse than low energy.

Things i’ve tried:
- High doses of sublingual B12, and dibencozide: helps but not enough
- Omega 3 supplements: causes moodiness and anxiety, which cancels out the benefits
- B complex tablets: slight help at best

I cannot take SAM-e because I’m on an antidepressant. The antidepressant causes some tiredness, but the mental impairment and fatigue only came about recently so it is unrelated.

Anyone else with these problems found something that helps???

A: Swisse Mens or Womens Formula.
I kid you not, this will give you a boost and clearer mind, and maybe a skip in your step!
I tried many things Centrum, all sorts of multivitamins etc, but this runs rings around anything I’ve tried before!

Q: Tell me if this is too much?
Im taking the following.

1-2 wellbutrin a day.
1 klonopin (currently tapering off)
A very extensive multi-vitamin ( has everything under the sun)
sublingual B-12 complex (400 mcg folic acid, 3,000 B12)
Fish Oil (Concentrate 2,000 mg, EPA 1,000mg, DHA 150mg)
Bachs rescue remedy (when needed)
Valerian root and Passion Flower when needed.

I work out everyday and walk 3-4 miles as well.

I feel GREAT. Sometimes my eyes feel a bit blurry but Im attributing that to new contact lenses. What do you guys think? Am I over doing it? Or am I right on track?

A: Yes, your taking more than your body needs.

Q: Has anyone ever heard of Sublingual B-12 as a treatment for Bipolar with Manic tendencies???
Some say that Bipolar mania is caused from a B-12 deficiency. If that be the case would B-12 sublingual correct that problem. As are B-12 injections so much more potent than B-12 sublingual?

A: I have never heard of any of this stuff, but sounds very interesting!

So you can give yourself injections rather than swallowing pills? I’d do that.

Q: What is the difference between B 12 & Sublingual B 12?
Im taking the oral B 12 now to get more energy and increased mood and it does work but is the other better?

A: What does this have to do with hockey?! Post it in the right category! DUH!

Q: What is the difference between B-12 and sublingual B-12? ?
Im taking regular B-12 1500mcg once a day and it really improves my mood. Im wondering if the other is better. For now what else should be taken with B-12 that will help?

A: B 12 injections are used to treat pernicious enemia and yes, it is used to enhance intrinsic factor. B12 is also coined “the activity vitamin” as it is a brain vitamin that is thought to increase energy. SL (sublingual) is more rapidly absorbed while taking it by mouth takes considerably more time as is true with most medication melted under the tongue. SL B12 is very expensive however. B-complex contains most of the B vitamins and you can safely take it together with the B-12 being careful not to exceed daily recommendations. A well-balanced diet, (and I believe eliminating meat products) will improve mood and sense of well-being. Happy to see someone exploring alternatives to medications. Good job!

Q: Can you take Puritans Pride Fast acting Sublingual B-12 2500 mcg?
while drinking alcohol.
It contains:
vitamin b-6, b-12, folic acid, biotin….
Thanks.

A: I would take it 24 hours after drinking.

Q: Has anyone tried Sublingual B-12 and does it work well?
My mom always wants me to try these random vitamin concoctions that she finds. Have y’all tried this one? Anything especially super about it or is a multi-vitamin just as helpful?

A: Any B vitamins are really good for you. Sublingual B-12 placed under the tongue for about 1min. then swallowed is really good for you. B-12 is absorbed alot under the tongue. If you take B-50 and B-12, you will be good to go. It helps your stress, moods, and energy levels. Also, really helps you to get to sleep at night, and very good for your immune system. You need alot of B vitamins near cold and flu season. Listen to your mom!

Q: the product Sublingual B-12, how is it different from the regular B-12 vitamins and is it worth the try?

A: B-12 is used to help you absorb iron in your intestine (among other things). If you are having digestive probelms, then taking B-12 orally where you have to absorb it through the intestine is not the best choice.

Subliminal B-12, you place under your tongue and let it dissolve. It is absorbed directly into the blood stream where it can be used, bypassing the need to be absorbed from the intestine. I take subliminal B-12; they taste good and you should definitely try them.

Q: My Doctor told me I need to take vitamin B-12 Sublingual 250mcg……..does it exist?
My Neurologist told me I need to take Vitamin B-12 250mcg Sublingual and, when I went to a few pharmacies they told me the sublinguals only come at a dosage of 500mcg, 1000mcg and 2500 mcg. I went back to my doctor to confirm, and she looked in her book and told me that indeed it’s 250mcg that I need to take and sublingual. Does B-12 250mcg sublingual actually exist? Would it be ok to take a higher dosage than 250mcg?

A: Go to another pharmacy. They may not sell that dosage at that pharmacy, but it does exist. Also- they make a liquid sublingual which is easy to dose out to that amount. I know walmart and GNC both sell it. It works better than the tablet anyhow.

Q: Looking for positive before & after experiences with taking vitamin supplement L-Theanine &/or sublingual b-12
I have been under some stress lately and started developing anxiety and panic attacks. I did not want to be put on any prescription meds so I went to a B natural and they recommended taking these two supplements together. Also if there is any other natural vitamins you have tried that have worked.. any advice is helpful

A: Well, Theanine is a very popular and beneficial supplement for stress. B-12 is typically used more for energy, but depending on the effects you feel from the stress, that might be great for you as well.
As for as other natural supplements for stress, some of the most popular ones are GABA, Rhodiola Rosea, 5-HTP, and L-Tryptophan. Good luck!

Q: What’s the difference between Vitamin B-12 casules and B-12 Sublingual?
Neurologist told me I have B12 deficiency and told me to take B-12 250 mcg in sublingual form only. It doesn’t even exist in sublingual in 250mcg dose. They do have the 250 mcg in regular tablet form. Left a message to Neaurologist 4 times within 24 hours today and she never called back. I’m running out of patients….. any recommendations? Why does she tell em it must be sublingual?

A: Sub-lingual has a different delivery method.

Talk to your pharmacist – they will be able to help you out.

Sorry the doctor isn’t getting back to you, but this is important but not a crisis.

Q: sublingual B-12 16,666 % of recommended daily value?
my question is can this be harmful? for a normal person to take this? a person that isnt on any medications or has any conditions or allergies?

i got a b complex vitamin with folic acid and i read about it and people with liver problems take it. i’m just wondering if more than recommended is generally safe to take?
the b complex being different than the sublingual B-12. i want to take the b complex and try that out before i try the sublingual if it’s safe to use.
right now i’m taking a multivitamin theratrum complete.

in the past i have had problems with low energy and depression and i’ve heard deficiencies in b12 and folic acid can cause or negatively impact that. so increasing my b12 and folic acid could help that.
basically i know the recommended daily values for vitamin c are VERY low so is that case for these too?
i’m thinking of taking the b complex like 3 days a week while taking the multivitamin once a day. the absorption supposedly makes it safe.

of course some of it will be excreted but there’s a reason people take them, the sublingual actually is taken by placing the pill under your tongue for increased absorption but im thinking that as a regular supplement i’ll be getting the benefits from the b complex; if i’m taking it even only 3 times a week.

A: Your body will eliminate (piss out) any excess B vitamins it cannot absorb (most of the B vitamin). That is why it’s recomended that you take B vitamins several times throughout the day not all at once.

Q: does anybody know if the rexall naturals sublingual high potency b-12?
actually work as in get your system clean from marijuana?

if so how long does it take. and can i drink a lot of water also to get my system clean or will that mess with the meds?

A: B12, B3 (niacin), etc. do NOTHING to detox cannabis, or any other drug.

Best wishes.

Q: Does sublingual Vitamin B-12 interfere with atrial fibrillation?

A: Nancy – You ask an interesting question. I agree that taking sublingual vitamin B12 will not have any effect (positive or negative) on atrial fibrillation. There have actually been some medical studies looking for an association between atrial fibrillation and certain vitamin levels such as folate, vitamin B2, and vitamin B12.

In one study that looked at 310 patients with atrial fibrillation and 310 normal patients, there was no difference in vitamin B12 levels between the two groups. In other words, having a high vitamin B12 level or a low vitamin B12 level don’t seem to increase an individual’s risk of atrial fibrillation.

Interestingly, in the same study, patients with atrial fibrillation were about 3 times more likely to have low vitamin B6 levels. For the record, however, the study doesn’t imply that taking vitamin B6 can cure someone of their atrial fibrillation. It just tells us that having vitamin B6 deficiency may be a marker of risk for developing the arrhythmia.

Hope that helps!

Q: Pernicious Anemia and B 12 question for nutritionists, RNs, MDs and anyone who knows!?
If someone has pernicious anemia, will sublingual B 12 treat the deficiency, or would the person need to have B 12 shots. I understand about the inability to absorb B 12 via the intestines. . . .
Very helpful information, from all of you, and much appreciated. Thank you!

A: The problem with using sub-lingual B-12 pills is that the B-12 must go through the stomach to be broken down by the protein enzyme found there or the body won’t be able to use it easily. The next thing is that ALL B-12 vitamins are typically sourced from animal organ extracts. The liver stores B-12, but if you do not eat meat, you will become deficient in that vitamin.

The body is not stupid; it recognizes B vitamins that are not from once living sources and not put through the body’s normal systems. Many products are being promoted that are actually damaging to the body. Very little is understood by the public in regard to nutrition and even less is understood by doctors. The B-12 shot is not a vitamin, but a chemical activator that will elicit a body response, but within a short time of taking more shots, the DNA is damaged from these and other forms of so called vitamin pills that are not really vitamins. In order for the body to absorb and utilize any vitamin, there are cofactors that must be in place to make this happen. Single element vitamins are simply not found in nature for good reason. Any vitamin component or chemical activator masqueraded as a vitamin will cause an imbalance and damage DNA; simple as that.

If you have been diagnosed as having pernicious anemia, you most likely have many other things going on that need to be addressed to make you healthy. To take a shot and expect your health to be marvelous is not good science.

I strongly suggest you find a Certified Nutritional Therapist to help you. Doctors are NOT the place to look for nutritional advice. The CNT can help you by testing you to find out what nutrients you are deficient in and then recommend supplements and diets that will help put you on the road to being healthy.

good luck

Q: Does Vitamin B-12 really work for loosing weight?
i have heard using the sublingual vitamin B-12 2500 mcg tablets that melt under tongue work for loosing weight and its water soluable so you cant overdose. But does anyone know if it will make you lose weight and how long till results??????

A: It can help a person better metabolize food which can help with weight but as to how much weight loss depends on each individual and different factors.

Q: Am I get too much b-12 from my dietary-supplements?
I have been vegan for a couple of months now. My mom took me to get some vitamins/supplementss. She got me the sublingual vitamin b-12 and amultivitaminn which has 300% of the b-12 i need in a day. My mother said not to worry since b-12 is watersoluble, but I don’t think that’s true.

I’m just wondering, is this TOO MUCH b-12?

A: Yeah.

Q: Have you taken Vitamin B12 sublingual pills? If so did it help? Did you ever take too many of them?
SUBLINGUAL = under the tongue

A: You cannot take too much Vita B-12 because it is water soluble. You will urinate out what you don’t need. My husband takes it and says it helps him with energy. i know it is also good for hair and skin.

Good luck.

Q: i giot some vitamin b12 pills. they’re not the methyl kind. are all b12 pills absorbed under the tongue ?
i know the methyl ones are sublingual but are just normal b12 pills able to dissolve under the tongue and get absorbed or do they just havee to be specifically sublingual pills?

A: Actually, the absorbtion of B12, even the “sublingual” ones, is very problematic and complex. The best way to administer B12 is by IM injection.

Note that there is no reason for you to take B12, unless it has been prescribed by a doctor, for a specific condition. Any normal human has a storage of B12 to last him months.

Q: sublingual B12 is this ok to take with high Blood Pressure ??
Have a friend just starting on this ‘vitamin’ and she
is on medication for High blood pressure !! any info pse,
as I off on Holiday in 24 hours…….

A: Its absolutely fine. I have pernicious anaemia and high blood pressure. I have B12 injections and tablets. It doesn’t interfer with my blood pressure medication.

Q: Can I give myself B12 injections?
I have a diagnosed B12 deficiency. I got monthly B12 injections in the past, but not for years now. My current doc doesn’t do the shots; she has me on a sublingual liquid. I can tell, though, that my levels are not where they should be.
I’ve seen, online, that you can purchase the serum (and needles) for home injection.
Is this legal, without a prescription? Does anyone do this? Results?

A: The B12 injections are prescription only. If you were to get a valid prescription for the injections and needles, you can do it at home.

It is never legal to have a prescription drug without a prescription.

Q: Question on B12 and mania..?
My brother in law has been treated for bipolar disorder for the last 4 years. He’s been on everything from lithium to depakote to lamictal. He’s rarely ever had any significant relief from mania and absolutely no relief from depression. Any kind of ssri or snri would make him insanely manic so there wasn’t much he could do to feel better. After doing some research online he started taking b12 supplements daily. He took methylcobalamin sublingual tablets. After supplementing for only 1 week he said he felt better than he ever did in his life. It’s been 3 months now that he’s been on the b12 and his personality and mood have changed dramatically. I’ve never seen him so stable in my whole life!! It’s almost like hes a new person..no joke. His manic moods and grosse behavior have all vanished and he is the happiest he’s ever been with no signs of mania whatsoever. His doctor is shocked with this change as well and is now reccomending b12 to some of his patients. Did anyone else ever experience this from b12 (methylcobalamin). I read the methyl form absorbs alot better in the body too. Why couldnt the prescribed drugs help him and a vitamin is? Anyone know why this helps or does anyone have any similar experiences? This stuff is amazing and I still dont know why it isnt well researched or publiczied.

A: Thank you for sharing this, I honestly have no answers to your questions but I am going to try this myself now! It can’t hurt. Thank you! And I am so happy he is feeling good, it’s wonderful to feel back in control of your own life.

Q: Overdose of vitamin B12?
I started taking B12 today. I took two pills accidentally. They are 2500mcg. sublingual tablets. I haven’t taken it before and have mild tingling. I know it’s suppposed to be water soluable but I’ve also read that you can take too much. Should I be worried?

A: No cause for alarm. This is a one off mistake that will not give you any problems. You could skip the B12 pill tomorrow and resume the one a day the following day as per the instructions on the container.

You can find further information in a search for “vitamin b12″ + overdose.

….. just take a good quality multi (you get what you pay for), take a powdered organic calcium powder and use the spirulina powder if you like and eat fresh good food….. it’s just not worth risking your precious vitality to trust manufacturers scruples on what they really do put in tablets vitamins et al.

drink more water too.

peace baby

Q: Smart For Life Dieters?
Anyone on a s4l diet? I will be starting my diet as soon as my package gets here. I also have order the sublingual b12 for mental clarity and stress relief. Since excercise is essential to a good diet. I will also join the gym and learn how to swim. What do you all think about the s4l cookie diet. Note: I do have a friend thats using it and she looks great!

A: Smart for Life changed my life. In 6 1/2 months, I lost 99 pounds. If you are in a State where there is a Smart for Life Center, go to it. The support is phenomenal and the program is awesome. Easy to follow and never hungry, I kept losing and losing and I have 1 pound to go. I started and I was a size 22 and now I am a size zero. I don’t think you should join the gym until you are on the program and close to your goal. I have not worked out yet and because the cookies are designed to lose the fat and not the muscle, I have no hanging skin. You use the exercise to maintain the weight once you are at your goal. Good luck and let me know if I can help.

Q: What are some good natural anti-depressants for a 16-year old?
I’ve looked in to St. John’s Wort, and a family member of mine has gotten great results from sublingual B12. I’ve been really depressed for at least two years now. My parents don’t know, but I’ve thought about suicide a lot, and gone as far as making a detailed plan. Obviously I never followed through, but I still got that bad. Earlier today my mom said she thinks I’d do well on antidepressants -she’s on an SSRI- so here I am.

I’ve been better recently but I still can’t focus, am rarely really happy, and just don’t think things will work out in my life. I’ve realized -and been told- that I’m bringing the rest of my family down with me, and I don’t want to do that.

I’m not taking any medications. I’ve had therapy in the past and I have a talky family- I also have a pretty good life. I have a supportive family that cares about me; ooh, harsh. I get regular exercise. I think the problem just has to be chemical. Either that, or maybe some sort of treatment would help me get enough energy back to do something with myself.

I’m basically just putting my faith in the power of homeopathy here, because it seems like for every three studies there are four opinions.

If you can recommend anything from personal experience that would be great.

A: I would first recommend that you get a hold of a good B complex. The various B’s especially B-1 are great at leveling mood swings and relieving tension. B is best taken along with vitamin C and a vit called calcium&magnesium. the 3 seem to work well together.

The second thing I would recommend is that you go to a chiropractor or some other natural doctor and get checked out for allergies. Believe it or not, allergies are one of the top reasons for depression and other troubles. You may find that the one thing you eat daily is the thing making you miserable.

Good luck.

Q: Muscle Weakness, numbness, cold hands and feet and loss of balance/cooridination?
I have been having a lot of what I thought were seemingly unrelated “symptoms” lately. The past 2 years I have really been having trouble with numbness and cold hands and feet which I started thinking maybe had to do with blood sugar issues. Because I was also getting blurred vision alot after eating and in the past I had tested as having high insulin levels. I just recently started taking sublingual B12 and I think that it may be helping with the numbness. But just in the past few months I have been noticing my muscles feeling really weak and tired feeling. I’m also noticing like a feeling that my muscles are like shaking or tremoring, its hard to describe because its not visibly noticable just a feeling I get. But what really is worrying me now is I’m noticing balance and coordination problems. I run into walls, misjudge turns and sometimes can loss my balance just standing there or especially when I’m getting up out of bed or a seat. This happens a few times EVERYDAY. And sometimes i will be holding an object like a fork for instant and suddenly just drop it, for no apparent reason. I feel like an idiot! And I’ve been noticing that I’m having trouble recalling information, like names, certain words and also when speaking I sometimes say things backwards like use the end letter as the first letter kind of thing. I’m getting worried because the latter issues have been an increasing problem, I feel like I’m losing my health or something. I’m only 23 yrs old and i am apprehensive that if i go to a doctor with a list of symptoms they are just going to think I’m overreacting and say I’m healthy. I’m wondering what you all think these sypmtoms could mean??

A: If you were older, I would bet that you are on statin drugs for cholesterol. Hmm, it fits so perfect……….
Pharmacist who’s life was almost ruined by Lipitor

Q: Persistent Muscle Spasms, Elevated Blood Pressure and Feeling exhausted?
Does anyone have a clue why a 43 year old female would have painful spasms in the throat, back, and inside (maybe uterus or intestines) that have come slowly over time but now are horrible especially when I’m on my period. My blood pressure is really high 170/110 at the worst. Now prior to this episode it was 139/90 most of the time. I’m taking Altace 2x’s a day but it never really seemed to do anything and I’ve been using it for a few years. I feel exhausted all the time and the constant pain is making me grumpy.

I did have low ferritin and iron back in August and my GP convinced me go to the gastro who did an endoscopy/colonoscopy and found ulcers in the lower intestines. I was supposed to go back for a small bowel series but I didn’t since the treatment for chron’s and UC is the same. I tested negative for celiac disease but went on the gluten-free diet (along with the yeast free diet) and 30 years of IBS is now gone. I know this diet is limiting along with not being able to eat red meat or pork or milk. Could there be some deficiency causing this? I’ve been taking sublingual B12 (about 1000mcg), Calcium tablets 1000mg, and Vitamin D 2400 IU ( I was supposed to take 50,000 2x’s a week for 6 weeks but the medicine caused extreme gastric distress so I had to buy some over the counter. I’m not taking enough).

Also, I have tingling in my left arm that runs down to my index finger and thumb but it comes and goes and doesn’t hurt, it’s just odd.

I went to my GP and an endo (my sister had thyroid cancer last year so she felt I needed to go). They both don’t really find anything except low Vitamin D. I’m not sure how the iron and oxygen in the blood relates but I know I was really low in both. At first, I was out of range below but in the second test (at another lab I was in range but at the absolute bottom).

My main issue is that when I go to see a doctor they ask me what I want them to check and I ask them to figure it out because I didn’t go to medical school. If I don’t throw out some suggestions they will just let me leave even with my bp that high.

I don’t have a problem with these doctors and don’t say “switch doctors” because these are all new doctors who did the same thing the old ones did. It’s just the way things seems to be.

Can anyone give me some areas to investigate? I take responsibility for my health and I’m ok with doing some legwork to get to an answer.

Thank you.

A: Hello. First off, blood pressure can temporarily increase for many reasons, such as anxiety or pain. If you were in pain from these spasms or anxious then this could explain the elevated blood pressure. Some people can have elevated BP at the doctor’s office known as white coat hypertension, but their BP is normal elsewhere. I think your BP was elevated secondary to some temporary increase due to pain and/or anxiety especially since it was much lower when checked at another time. A onetime elevated BP is nothing to panic about as long as you do not have chest pain, shortness of breath, visual changes or stroke like symptoms.

The most common cause of muscle spasms is a musculoskeletal issue and this commonly occurs in the low back. This is not serious at all and will improve with a short course of a muscle relaxant. It is important to work with your doctor to try to determine the musculoskeletal cause. Physical therapy may also be beneficial. The spasms inside sound like menstrual cramps, which are very common in menstruating women and respond well to anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen or Naproxen. It could also be related to the intestines, such as gas pain. Rarely, persistent muscle spasms can be secondary to neurologic disorders such as ALS or electrolyte abnormalities. These electrolyte abnormalities can be tested for with simple blood tests. A neurologic disorder is very unlikely in your case though.

Tingling in the thumb and index finger can occur with carpal tunnel syndrome, which can be treated with a splint or surgery. Your doctor can evaluate you for this. Tingling in the left arm can be an atypical presentation of heart disease, but this is extremely unlikely unless you have other symptoms like chest pain.

Iron deficiency is secondary to blood loss from the body usually through the gastrointestinal tract or secondary to menses (period) in women. In your case it could be a combination. It is good that you have been appropriately given Iron supplementation. I do not think your iron deficiency relates to any of your other complaints.

Vitamin D deficiency is very common especially in the winter. The body can produce Vitamin D with sunlight exposure. We can also ingest Vitamin D from food and supplements. If your 25-hydroxy Vitamin D was less than 20, then you should really try to take the 50,000 units as instructed. I usually order 50,000 once weekly for 8-12 weeks depending on the level. Vitamin D is not known to cause GI distress, but supplements can have different side effects in different people. If you are unable to take the higher dose, then I would let your doctor know this. He/she will hopefully suggest the appropriate dose of the daily Vitamin D. You can also get Vitamin D with sun exposure, such as 10-15 minutes daily.

   5000 MCG?

Q: Can canker sores be prevented?
Based on a clinical trial I found months ago in clinicaltrials.gov (NIH), I started using 5000 mcg of Vitamin B12 sublingual daily (under the tongue) from Nature’s Bounty. Since I started taking it, my canker sores have disappeared. In fact, when I reduce the dosage to 2500 mcg, they came back so I upped it to 5000 mcg again.

What vitamins or herbs have you used to successfully prevent canker sores?

More info at: http://www.pueblo.gsa.gov/cic_text/health/fever-blister/fever-canker.html

A: Actually, the same thing worked for me, but I also gargled with Listerine 3x a day, and that really did the trick. A bit painful at first, but those two things combined really knocked them out.

Q: feet sore and burning ?
my feet and legs started getting what I’d call not exactly tingling – maybe more like nerves shooting under the skin in the middle of the night. then my feet feel kind of like I’ve walked on hot cement.

It doesn’t really hurt, but is very annoying and bothersome. and actually scarey.

I do not symptoms of diabetes, but I have not been to a doctor for a couple of years (I am 60) because I have no health insurance and can not find work.

I’ve been researching this all day and the possibilities are odd. A lot of people with it and no explanation.

Someone said to take B12 – I have some sublingual ones and a couple hours ago took one (they go directly into the blood stream) Within about 5 minutes it literally susided about 75% (and I am a skeptic).

Anyone else have this?

A: The soreness and burning in your feet could be an indication of neuropathy (damage to the nerves) such as due to Diabetes or B-12 deficiency.

As for the sublingual B-12 I have heard of some that have used it with good success but I would recommend seeing your primary care physician if you have one for further evaluation of the situation.

If you don’t have one and you have the kind of insurance that allows you to choose which doctors you want to see as far as specialists, I would recommend a consultation with a Podiatrist (a doctor that diagnoses and treats diseases and disorders related to the feet such as issues with neuropathy such as due to things like Diabetes).

If you have other questions for me about what it’s like to visit a Podiatrist please feel free to e-mail me off site any time.

Q: Does Magnesium absorb other vitamins?
I’m pregnant and taking Magnesium in addition to other vitamins and wonder if it absorbs my other vitamins thereby reducing nutrition? I take a prebiotic along with prenatal vitamins, DHA fish oil, a folic acid, B12 & Vita D3 both sublingual as well as a magnesium. Anyone know if taking this together interferes with absorption? Thanks!
Thanks for responding but FYI …
Magnesium is needed to prevent miscarriage when there is too early contractions. You need more when pregnant, throwing up for months generally means you’re deficient. Minerals can and do interact with many other meds. There’s no info on it’s interaction with vitamins because vitamins and minerals are not FDA regulated or studied. Thanks for taking the time to try to help though.
Yes, these supplements were recommended by my OB. After a late mid trimester miscarriage at 16 wks not due to chromosomal issues I was suggested these supplements by my OB. I am mostly vegetarian but eat some fish, hence the B12, D3 because I’m on bed rest and no sun exposure. The prenatal and DHA is highly recommended by all OB’s. The magnesium however, may reduce uterine contractions and due to the previous miscarriage, it is suggested. It is given in hospitals when women show signs of premature labor, a possibility in my case. My concern is severe vomiting (3-5x’s day) and not absorbing ANY nutrients. Hoping that at least these supplements offer something and prevent the reason for miscarriage before. It is thought my son’s water broke due to placental abruption but it not known.

A: Hi Joie. Even though most of the answer by the Skeptical doctor was accurate, some of it is absolutely incorrect, so I gave it a thumbs down.

Attached is a link to a major scientific paper in one of the world’s top medical journals (The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences) by one of the world’s leading experts in nutritional biochemistry (Dr. Bruce Ames, former chairman of the dept. of biochemistry at U.C. Berkeley). If you click on table 1 in the article you will see that 56% of American adults do NOT consume adequate amounts of Magnesium.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1693790/?tool=pubmed

I don’t know why the skeptical doctor does not read the scientific research, but you need to know that his answer is incorrect on this issue. Most Americans do not get enough magnesium from their diet. You can also see from the table that many other nutrients are commonly deficient as well.

The skeptical doctor is correct in stating that magnesium does not interfere with the absorption of other nutrients. However, there is a caveat to even this simple statement. Because magnesium supplements can induce diarrhea, if that occurs a lot of nutrients can be lost to the diarrhea.

Best wishes and good luck with your baby.

Q: OK to take all these supplements together?
So after much trial and error and the medical world, I saw an MD recently who attempts natural ways before anything pharmaceutical. I have had some problems with my nervous system which were spurred by a “nervous breakdown” of sorts, I won’t go into detail. But have been left with this depression.

She showed me the pathways of amino acids which lead to seratonin and dopamine clearly, and believed my body wasn’t methylating properly.

My question is: Is it a good idea to take ALL of these supplements together? Many have overlapping B vitamins, especially B12, and I’m not sure if that’s too much.

If not, which should I try and for how long?

Here are the supplements:
METHYL PROTECT:
http://www.xymogen.com/2008/formula.asp?code=000042
B2 – 25 mg
B6 – 10 mg
Folate – 2000 mcg
B12 – 1000 mcg
Trimethylglycine – 500 mg

MOOD FOOD:
http://www.xymogen.com/2008/formula.asp?code=000044
B6 – 4 mg
B12 – 1000 mcg
Folate – 800 mcg
Magnesium – 50 mg
GABA – 250 mg
5-HTP – 50 mg

along with a powdered methyl B12 of 3,000 mg for sublingual.

Whew.

A: Yes, you can. Of course, it would be best to check with your doctor to double check if he wanted you to take all at once or the most ideal time of day for each as well.

All of those B Vitamins are well under the common dosages available in supplement form, so your body should easily be able to absorb them. The separate B-12 would be most ideal when taken separately so your body can get the most benefit from it in addition to the others.
If you took them separately, I’d say to allow 3 hours or more between each to play on the safe side.
Good luck!

Q: What’s the deal with B12 injections?
OK, here’s the deal: I found out my boss give himself vitamin B12 injections. He buys syringes at the drugstore and the B12 that is for animals at the agriculture supply. The rest you can figure out. What are the benefits? What are the dangers? I mean this can’t be good, right?

A: Vitamin B12 is used to treat various blood conditions, namely pernicious anemia. Whether your boss labors under the false impression that it invigorates him or whether he physically needs the B12 is moot. Animal medications are produced by the same companies that produce human medications…but sold a lot cheaper….i.e. Penicillin costs you about 50 cents whereas animal medication costs only a few cents. If you go to a pet store and look at the antibiotics available for fish…..erythromycin, penicillin, tetracycline, isoniazid, and even chloramphenicol are available for a fraction of the cost. Just think of a company such as Abbot Labs producing erythromycin….after they produce their nice pink capsules, they make the system dirty for producing drugs for animals…???? It is a matter of marketing, advertising and packaging. Some years ago, we were producing cortisone and selling it in American wholesale for for about 25 cents a pill, but we were selling the same product to Israel for 5 cents…You boss is clever but whether he needs the B12 is another matter.

Q: someone please please help me…?
1. Jamie has the flu. She is uncomfortable and reaches out for flu medication, which is supposed to make her more comfortable. But her sister who is taking a course in Anatomy and Physiology informs her that having a fever might actually be beneficial. Pick the statement that is incorrect regarding the benefits of fever: (immunity)
(a)Fever can retard (slow down) the multiplication of certain pathogens
(b)Fever increases the metabolic rate of the body thereby encouraging immune reactions
(c)Fever slows down the action of interferons
(d)Fever can help promote tissue repair by retarding the physical activities of the host

2. Little Joseph is bitten by a stray dog and he is rushed to the ER. The attending physician gives him an antiserum with anti-rabies antibodies. Joseph is provided with _________ type of immunity: (immunity)
(a)naturally acquired active immunity
(b)naturally acquired passive immunity
(c)artificially acquired active immunity
(d)artificially acquired passive immunity

3. Oneka’s village has been struck by famine and like many other children of her village, she too shows signs of starvation (her arms and legs are really frail and her abdomen is swollen). All of the following statements correctly describe the physiological basis of her condition EXCEPT: (blood)
(a)Hypoproteinemia has caused water to leave her blood vessels by osmosis
(b)Lowered levels of albumin in her plasma have contributed greatly to lower than normal blood osmolarity.
(c)Lowered levels of fibrinogen in her plasma have contributed greatly to lower than normal blood osmolarity.
(d)Low protein intake has led to reduced synthesis of albumin resulting in lowered blood osmolarity

4. If the oxygen level in the blood is 100 mmHg and the oxygen level in the alveoli is 140 mmHg: (Respiration)
(a)oxygen moves by simple diffusion from the alveoli into the blood
(b)oxygen moves by simple diffusion from the blood into the alveoli
(c)oxygen moves by active transport from the alveoli into the blood
(d)oxygen moves by active transport from the blood into the alveoli
5. A recent news item reported a nurse who was suspected of killing his patients using an overdose of vecuronium, which is a skeletal muscle relaxant normally used in limited quantities during surgery. The victims stopped breathing and died quietly in their sleep because vecuronium causes: (Respiration)
(a)massive vasodilation, leading to circulatory shock
(b)relaxation of the heart muscle, leading to death
(c)relaxation of the diaphragm, which makes inhalation impossible
(d)constriction of the bronchioles thereby cutting off air supply to the lungs

6. Susan is an obese patient who has recently had a partial gastrectomy. She must be given Vitamin B12 injections in order to prevent pernicious anemia because: (Digestive system)
1.vitamin B12 is necessary for the formation of hemoglobin
2.intrinsic factor produced by the stomach is necessary for the absorption of Vitamin B12
3.an oral administration of Vitamin B12 might be ineffective in this case
4.The stomach is stimulated to produce above normal levels of intrinsic factor

7. Mr. Ray has been diagnosed with atherosclerosis (the formation of plaque and subsequent hardening of the arteries) of the carotid artery. His cardiologist suggests stenting of the carotid artery. The advantage of stenting directly impacts the relationship between: (blood vessels)
(a) blood flow and blood pressure
(b) blood flow and vessel length
(c) blood flow and viscosity
(d) blood flow and vessel radius

8. Jacqui finally quit smoking, but the damage done over the years has resulted in her having to go to the hospital for sever pneumonia on a recurring basis. The pneumonia is bad enough because it makes it harder to breathe, but sometimes it gets so bad that it actually causes her blood pH to shift. Then she has: (Acid base balance)

(a)metabolic alkalosis
(b)metabolic acidosis
(c)respiratory acidosis
(d)respiratory alkalosis

9. Michael has severe pernicious anemia. He frequently resists taking his vitamin B12 shots and ends up in the hospital complaining of shortness of breath. In order to compensate for the lack of RBCs (and therefore O2 carrying capacity) he ends up breathing more deeply and rapidly. Unfortunately, this sometimes leads to a change in his plasma pH. If so, he has: (Acid base balance)
(a)metabolic alkalosis
(b)respiratory acidosis
(c)metabolic acidosis
(d)respiratory alkalosis
10. Baby Carrie is born with an opening called Foramen ovale in the septum or wall between the ventricles. Which of the following is a likely consequence? (Heart)
(a)pumping of blood through the body will be more efficient because pressure from both ventricles will be added together
(b)deoxygenated blood will be sent to the body
(c)hemorrhage due to loss of blood from the hole in the heart
(d)this is normal, there would be no significant consequence

Q: How often should vitamin B12 supplements be taken by a strict vegetarian?
I hear it takes a long time to run out of B12, so taking it every day(unless you’re borderline deficient or trying to build up a large reserve) isn’t necessary. So which is best for maintaining optimal levels of B12? Once a week? Once a month? Is sublingual B12 as effective as injections?

A: I have read and heard that 1ml Vitamin B12 injection once a month is a good dose. Vitamin B12 is a Water Soluble Vitamin. There is almost no risk of overdosing.

Q: vegan question?
I have heard that it’s a good idea for vegans to take Vitamin B12 injections. Are these given at a doctor’s office or given to yourself at home? How often are they needed and how painful are they? Should I ask my doctor about getting them?

A: There are so many foods that are fortified with vitamins that it is very unlikely that you need B12 injections. Soy Milk, cereal, faux meats all have many added vitamins in them these days to help veg*n’s get everything that they need without much effort.

Additionally, your body stores tons of B12 and just a little bit replenishes it (it lasts about a month) – http://www.veganhealth.org/b12/tested

Q: what do you know about vitamin B12 for weight loss?
A friend of mine took B12 injections to loose a substantial amount of weight for her wedding (in addition to diet and exercise of course). I was just wondering if anyone has heard of this, or tried this, and what were your results? Thank You.

A: yes its absolutely true

a 250 pound friend lost weight that way!!! I’m so jealous and currently on a diet cos I was always the thinner one !!!!!!

Q: Has anyone had experience with a weight loss program which includes Vitamin B6 and B12 injections?
It also includes menu plans.

A: First off, Vit B12 and B6 donjt nedto be involved to lose weight. They help the body repair in a time of recovery. THEY WONT DO ANYTHING FOR LOSING WEIGHT. They will give you lots of energy though.

Q: Do Vitamin B12 injections help you to lose weight ?
Many weight loss clinics give their clients weekly B12 injections. Does this help a person to lose weight in some way or are they just good for you?

A: yes b12 can help you lose weight
and i have lost about 6 pounds using it.
now here’s the thing.
you haft to have about 1200cc of b12 to lose the weight and you can’t stop exercising everyday, and your body will need a brake from all the body intake for one or two days a week. like stop your diet on Sundays but over do it,and stop taking the pills(b12) and start the healing, just watch what you eat and drink and don’t over do it on the weekends.
hope this helps you

Q: vitamin B12 vitamins or injections?
I was wondering if taking B12 has the same affect in weight loss as does getting B12 injections?

A: no, B-12 pills are a waste of money, it is destroyed in stomach acids. You can get B-12 tabs that melt in your mouth and are absorbed thru the mucous membranes in your mouth, but not in doseages like those you get from injectable. This is why doctors use injectable B-12. As for weight loss… that is not the purpose of B-12 and it is not a common side effect of B-12 use, unless a B-12 deficiency is causing water retention… in which case, supplementation results in loss of excess water weight, but not fat.

Q: Vitamin B6 and B12 injections.?
I am 21 years and weight 175 lbs. recently, I had a wake up call to improve my health and appearance and I started going to gym regularly 7 days a week. I burn around 500 calories on cardio machines and do alternate days on strength training.

Recently, a friend suggested taking Vitamin B6 / B12 injections to improve my weight loss mission. Please tell me if this is a good idea or not. If there are side effects ? Once a week injection for 10 weeks. I want to know if they will help me.

A: No pills, potions, supplements or anything will help you lose weight.
They just don’t work.

All you need to lose weight and keep fit is a good healthy diet and exercise.

Q: GENERIC NAME: CYANOCOBALAMIN – INJECTION or Vitamin B12?
is this what doctors inject for weight loss? how come it costs so much? How does it help in loosing weight? what does this compound consist of? I know this question is a little hard, I am much obligue for your answer. Is this available in Germany? is so, under what name? the U.S military hospitals do not have this available here but maybe in the German economy?
Thank you in advance.

A: Cyanocobalamin is vitamin B12. Vegans can take oral B12, people with pernicious anemia or some who’ve undergone bariatric surgery need injections, but its main use in others is that it’s a pretty, red-colored placebo. I can’t imagine that it isn’t on the formulary of the larger military hospitals in Germany, but they’re not going to use it as a placebo like some doctors in private weight-loss practices do.

Q: Is this healthy weight loss?
ok so I am… 5′8 222.2lbs 17year old female.

I am currently on the Dr. Bernstein’s diet! =)

so far I have lost 22lbs in 32 days

They want me to lose 16-20lbs each and every month.

I eat according to the plan with no deviations. It’s roughly about 700-800 calories a day. This is a medically supervised diet that is watched carefully by doctors and nurses.

Monday’s Wed’s and Fri’s I go to their clinic and get injections of B12 and other random vitamins that this diet is lacking.. I also do a urine sample every time I go in so that they can check/track my keytosis and stuff.

I drink about 4-5 litres of water a day plus a few other liquids (herbal tea ect. )

There are so many foods that are not allowed on the diet but surprisingly I feel satisfied everyday with the wholesome foods I am allowed to eat! =)

So please if you are familiar with this diet or whatever please give your input about it and tell me what you think. Opinions are appreciated

Thanks in advance! =)
Sorry, yeah my goal weight is 145-150lbs

A: I like everything I hear, I’m just not too happy about the 16-20 lbs a month thing :/

Don’t get me wrong here. You are doing great. But losing that much fat that fast isn’t going to make you happy later.

The healthy way to lose fat is 1-2 lbs a week. 10 lbs a month is still good. Why? To give the body a chance to pull the skin back so it will not sag. And more than 2 lbs a week is too fast.

Plus, losing no more than 2 lbs a week will guarantee that you lose pure fat weight without any muscle lost.

I don’t know what’s your goal with this diet. If you are really overweight and just want to get your weight down fast (for health reasons?), then this Dr. Bernstein’s diet sounds perfect for you

I do suggest talking to your doctor about the saggy skin problem though.

Good luck ^^

Q: GENERIC NAME: CYANOCOBALAMIN – INJECTION or Vitamin B12?
is this what doctors inject for weight loss? how come it costs so much? How does it help in loosing weight? what does this compound consist of? I know this question is a little hard, I am much obligue for your answer. Thank you in advance.

A: No, it doesnt cause weight loss, it might even increase your appetite. Its actually a very cheap drug if you can get a prescription for it and inject yourself. Its B12. In Germany just ask for a B12 shot, im sure its available, just under another name probably.

Q: Advice on Vitamin B12 injections?
Hi i am thinking about buying Vitamin B12 injection and just wanted some advice on them lyk are they safe to take where to inject them and what colour it is suppose to be??

A: Unless you are suffering from pernicious anaemia they are of no benefit.
From the link…
“If you are experiencing tiredness and you receive a B12 injection it is only going to help if you are deficient. If you’re not, it’s just quackery,” says Collins. “There are people who attempt to prescribe vitamins like medicines and I would be concerned if people were being told to take B12 to boost their energy levels.”

Common side effects include…
Mild diarrhea. Upset stomach. Nausea
A feeling of pain and a warm sensation at the site of the injection
A feeling, or a sense, of being swollen over the entire body
Headache. Joint pain

Best left alone unless medically necessary.
Colour? Usually clear, red, sterile, nonpyrogenic, aqueous solution

Q: I just had Gastric Bypass this past week and need some help with Vitamins.?
I’ve been strict on drinking water, diet Cranberry Grape juice and some green teas without sugar or alternative sugars. I’ve been feeling ok but I really want to get started on vitamins as soon as possible. The Dr. recommended chewable or liquid. I’m thinking chewable will probably taste better so I think I want to try that first. I have already been on B12 injections for about 6 months because I came up deficient after being anemic. So I know I am getting that, but I am worried about the other vitamins and minerals I need. Can anyone give me some good names of cheap chewable vitamins that work? I’ll probably buy them at a Wal-mart or local drug store, if I have to drive to the city to a specialty store I will but I’d rather not….

Sorry I know that’s long, but thanks for any help.
The doctor sent me home with a list of instructions, that said to take chewable or liquid vitamins but I wanted to know which were best.

A: A regular multi-vitamin is a good place to start. Please don’t buy anything from walmart, the quality is poor and they just go right through you without leaving any of their nutrients behind.
